The global demand for automotive part die casting market which includes aluminium die casting parts is slated to reach US$11.86 billion (approx.) in 2021, growing at a CAGR of above 7.8% during 2016 and 2021, shows data published in a recent report by Zion Research. The market was valued at around US$7.54 billion in 2015.
According to the report, increasing demand for lightweight automobiles along with rapidly growing automotive industry is mainly responsible for the growth of the automotive part die casting market globally. In addition, energy saving trend, favourable government initiative, and industry regulations, various initiative by EPA to raise the mile per gallons standards from 35.5 miles per gallon (mpg) till 2016 and 54.5 mpg by 2025 have also opened up alluring opportunities for aluminium automotive part die casting industry, the report states
vacuum die casting and Pressure die casting are the two major process types involved in the metal die casting market. The same is true for aluminium automotive die casting sector. In 2016, vacuum die casting process is expected to attain greater acceptance, due to minimal porosity and tensile strength of the end products from the process, the report observes.
The gradual shift towards automotive lightweighting and greater customization of the parts spiked up the use of aluminium for die casting parts in the recent years. Technological advancement such as new magnesium thixomolding, a type of semi-solid metal casting by Proto Labs is expected to give aluminium die casting parts a tough competition as a raw material in the coming years.
