Camera units watch the extruded profile(s) right at the press for irregularities
• One camera unit consists of one camera and one lighting.
• The unit is water proof and has to be cooled with compressed air
• The camera unit will be placed either
- between the press mouth (right after the die) and the cooling or
- between the cooling and the saw or
- after the saw
• The system can also be used for multi cavity extrusion
• Several units can be positioned per press, that the profile(s) can be viewed from different angles.
• The system shall only detect non permanent errors/distortions:
- errors which occur only one time
- errors which occur only a short period of time
because they can be overlooked easily (permanent errors i.e. die lines can be seen by the operator immediately).
The possible errors/distortions, which can be detected (see also following page):
- Pick ups
- Bubbles / Blisters
- Chatter marks
- Holes
- Cracks
These are just the errors detected in a first stage of the development – more will follow.

because they can be overlooked easily

Usage of the system:
At the control station of the press, the monitor of our system will be installed. At the monitor it can be defined, which areas - which can be viewed from the camera – shall be controlled.
As soon as our system recognizes an error, it will be displayed either at the monitor or by a signal lamp, … and at the monitor the picture with the error will be displayed. Now the press operator can decide, whether he wants to react to this irregularity or whether he wants to ignore it. If meanwhile there occur other errors, then one after the other can be handled.
All errors, which have not been ignored will be moved into a staple to take care of after the profile can be accessed. At every time our system will save the distance of the profile to the edge of the saw and the appropriate picture. By this the profile bar can be sorted out or it can be decided what shall happen with the bar.
All the errors can be forwarded to a superordinated system, which then could sort out the defective bars. Or the profile the part of the bar, which is defective can be sawed out.
