As confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) on Tuesday Nov 22, the company is processing the loading its first sample shipment of bauxite from its Guinea mine to China.
Guinea Alumina Corporation S.A. (“GAC”) is a mining development company owned by EGA, focused on bauxite mining and an alumina export project in the Boké region of north-western Guinea. EGA is constructing a $5 billion facility which will include a bauxite mine, alumina refinery and a port to ship the bauxite. The marine facility started operationg since October.
The bauxite mine is expected to produce 12 million tonnes of bauxite annually after the commissioning of commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2018, Abdulla Kalban, the CEO of EGA, announced it during the ARABAL conference that opened its door to delegates yesterday.
It will supply bauxite for EGA's primary production facilities in the United Arab Emirates and export the rest to different countries in Asia. China is the main market for bauxite exports as it is in constant need of the ore to produce the current 55.7% of global aluminium production in September.
