Aluminium built catamaran Shahid Nazeri soon to join Iran naval fleet

Iran is constructing a much bigger version of the unique catamaran it unveiled in September this year, an industry source reported citing Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy (IRGCN) commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi. The catamaran built out of aluminium is named, Shahid Nazeri after the deceased IRGCN special forces commander, who died earlier this year.

Iran unveiled the lightweight, high-speed aluminium vessel in the Gulf port of Bushehr on 13 September 2016. Shahid Nazeri is 55 metre long, crafted out of high-end aluminium alloys, and is capable of carrying 100 passengers, plus one helicopter. The vessel has an operational range of 10,000 kilometres, updated Rear Adm Fadavi.

The aluminium vessel being engineered has a distinctive design. It has a bridge, a passenger deck, and a helicopter deck, all of which are mounted high above two narrow hulls.

Shahid Nazeri is expected to further strengthen the position of Iran navy once it joins the fleet.
