UC RUSAL the leading, global producer of aluminium contributing about 7% of global production of aluminium and 7% of alumina announces its operating results for the third quarter 2016.
In the aluminium segment, production results remain flat in the third quarter. Rusal Siberian smelters represented about 94% of total aluminium output. Capacity utilization in smelters remained on average at 94%.
Total aluminium sales in the third quarter increased by 2.4% from the last quarter to 981 thousand tons. The value added products sales increased marginally from last quarter to 446 thousand tons.
The realized average aluminium price in third quarter 2016 increased by 2.5% from last quarter to USD1,754/ton. This was also partially driven by LME aluminium price increase from USD1,550/tonne in Q2 2016 to USD1,604/tonne in Q3 2016. The realized aluminium premium dropped from USD162/tonne to USD150/tonne. This drop was driven by lower average commodity premium as a whole and higher sales and purchase volumes of commodities including aluminium.
For the first 9 months of 2016, aluminium production totalled 2,756 thousand tons that records a growth of 1.2% YoY. Aluminium sales volume for the same period increased 4.9% YoY to 2,896 thousand tonnes. Extra sales volume was driven by additional output from Boguchansky smelter, where the plant is currently operating in test mode. The realized average aluminium price during the first nine months of 2016 was USD1,711/ton which recorded a drop of 18.0% from the same period of 2015. Different market environment in the first nine months of 2015 and 2016 accounted for lower aluminium LME prices and premiums in 2016.
