    China's bauxite import in August shrinks 1.8% YoY to stand at 4,457,660mt

    China's total import of bauxite in the month of August declined marginally by 1.8 per cent year-on-year to stand at 4,457,660 million tonnes, while it grew 3.86 per cent during January-August period from the same period previous year, revealed the General Administration of Customs data released on September 22.

    Bauxite import from Australia grew 38 per cent YoY in August to total at 2,237,569mt. During January-August period, the volume stood at 13,892,367mt, up 6.86 per cent from the corresponding period last year.

    China's import volume of bauxite, the primary ore of aluminium, from Guinea also soared significantly to total at 1,003,287mt in August. In January-August period, the country consuming the world's lion's share of aluminium imported 6,438,286mt of the ore from Guinea.

    Shipment of bauxite from Malaysia to China, however, shrunk 74.38 per cent YoY in August while the same for the January-August period declined 51.4 per cent YoY to stand at 5,869,909mt. India, too, exported 75.29 per cent less bauxite YoY in August and only 3,466,786mt during January-August, down 23.24 per cent from the corresponding period previous year.

    Ghana has upped its bauxite shipment volume to China. Imports from the country grew 41.71 per cent YoY in August, while it surged 35.5 per cent YoY to total at 653,638mt during January-August 2016.
