Rising alumina prices squeeze profit at Chinese aluminium smelters, SMM says

Rising alumina prices and falling aluminium prices have reduced profit at Chinese aluminium smelters, SMM learned.

Chinese aluminium smelters in SMM survey sample reported profit of 1,000-1,160 yuan per tonne last week.

Alumina prices gained another 30 yuan per tonne, while average spot aluminium price in Shanghai dropped 142 yuan per tonne to 12,552 yuan per tonne last week, SMM data showed.
