Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is aiming at launching its certification program by the end of 2017. The ASI was launched in 2012 to promote sustainability and transparency throughout the aluminium industry. The organization is now working on developing required normative documents and the assurance model for a third party certification program for the aluminium value chain. They are also finalizing a draft chain-of-custody standard through a public consultation process which is scheduled to be started in October.
The certificate program and the standard system need a range of normative documents to be prepared. These documents aim to describe and line up how ASI Certification will be designed and implemented and will be upgraded in future.
ASI has also prepared an orientation document known as "ASI Standards Documents Overview". The same is available in French, Portuguese and Chinese, in order to introduce ASI stakeholders to these various elements. The overview is a guide to understand the normative documents and their current status.
An important point is that these elements need to be well integrated with each other, and consider the desired outcomes of the program and likely implementation challenges. ASI will be working with the ASI Standards Committee, ASI members, potential auditors and stakeholders to inform the finalisation of these critical documents.
The documents need to take into account all the desired outcomes and the implementation challenges. ASI Standards Committee, ASI members, potential auditors and stakeholders are all working together towards scrutinization and finalization of these critical documents.
