The aluminium manufacturing market in Turkey is slated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3 per cent over the period 2015-2020, according to a recently published market report.
A leading metals and minerals industry expert noted that rapid urbanization will likely boost investments in the country's construction sector. Investments will be made in R&D, engineering and designing as well, contributing immensely to the region's automotive industry growth. The overall buoyancy in the end-user industries will eventually perk up aluminium consumption.
The report identified following three emerging trends that will drive aluminium manufacturing in Turkey during the forecast period:
• More export of downstream and fabricated aluminium products
• Increasing focus on R&D and process modernisation
• Increasing market penetration of downstream aluminium products
According to data published in the report, a number of downstream aluminium products market segments like aluminium wire rods and aluminium foil remain largely under-penetrated in Turkey. This presents potential growth opportunities for the aluminium manufacturers in the country.
The Turkish aluminium industry comprises of around 1500 companies. The primary aluminium production capacity here is 65,000 tonnes per annum. Eti Aluminum is the only primary aluminium producer in the country. There are also secondary aluminium producers who produce the metal from scrap.
