LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Technavio’s latest global aluminum market for building and construction sector report highlights three key emerging trends predicted to impact market growth through 2020. Technavio defines an emerging trend as something that has potential for significant impact on the market and contributes to its growth or decline.

The global building automation and control market was USD 35 billion in 2015, and Technavio researchers expect it to grow at a CAGR of 9%-10% during the forecast period. Building automation improves the efficiency of building systems by reducing energy consumption, improving the lifecycle of utilities, and enhancing occupant comfort.

“Aluminum extrusions are used for manufacturing building profile systems as fine, value-added solutions. These products are increasingly used in the form of windows, doors, facades, and sliding doors in modern high-rise buildings, commercial buildings, and star hotels. Aluminum profiles are gaining market share due to their slim structure, durability, and negligible maintenance cost,” said Chandrakumar Badala Jaganathan, one of Technavio’s lead industry analysts for metals and minerals.

Technavio’s market research study identifies the following three emerging trends expected to propel the global aluminum market for building and construction sector:

    • Rise in demand for nano self-cleaning aluminum composite panels

    • Rise in use of aluminum in BIPV systems

    • Aluminum extrusions offer lead time and cost advantage

Rise in demand for nano self-cleaning aluminum composite panels

Nano aluminum composite panels are coated with nanomaterials films, which are not only resistant to harmful weather conditions but also repel airborne pollutants. These are capable of repelling dust particles when it rains, ultimately ending up cleaning themselves. Nano coated aluminum composites also help in retaining gloss and color for a longer time as these are resistant to harmful effects of UV radiations. The demand for these nano aluminum composite panels will increase during the forecast period as these help in minimizing the overall maintenance costs and have a longer lifespan.

Rise in use of aluminum in BIPV systems

BIPV systems are considered as green initiatives. BIPV systems are aluminum-framed photovoltaic systems. These systems are used in facades and roofs of buildings. In BIPV systems, a thin solar cell is integrated into flat roofs made of polymer roofing membrane. Instead of conventional construction materials, these systems are used as a source of energy in buildings and help reduce the overall cost of construction. Aluminum facades can be installed on old buildings giving them a new look as well as a functional advantage as these materials help in generating renewable energy. Aluminum BIPVs are expected to be used in Europe to achieve all zero-energy buildings by 2020. Therefore, BIPV systems are expected to affect the market positively during the forecast period.

Aluminum extrusions offer lead time and cost advantage

Aluminum extrusions are expected to increase its market share by the end of the forecast period on the back of its advantages of cost and lead time over other methods. Extrusions lead time for tooling design and manufacture is less compared to other processes that take 13-18 weeks for completion. In addition, aluminum extrusions are five times lower in cost than, other processes depending on the size and shape.
