Coca-Cola Malaysia refuted allegations that its imported Coca-Cola UEFA Euro 2016 limited edition aluminium bottles sold in selected outlets in the country contain alcohol.

It said although the limited edition aluminium bottles were not produced in Malaysia but imported from Europe, “the ingredients and manufacturing process used in the production of Coca-Cola beverage are rigorously regulated by the government and health authorities in more than 200 countries which have consistently recognised the drink as a non-alcoholic product”.

“These include countries where Islam is the major religion,” it said in a statement, here, today.

“The company understands the local market and recognises and respects the importance of reassuring the Muslim consumers that its products meet the strict halal processing standards so that it can be consumed with peace of mind.”

It said Coca-Cola, which had been the official sponsor for the celebrated football event since 1988, had launched the special edition Coca-Cola UEFA Euro 2016 aluminium bottles in Europe.

“To bring it closer to Malaysian football fans and collectors, Coca-Cola Malaysia has imported these collectibles to be sold for a limited time in selected outlets in the country.”

It said as the world’s largest non-alcoholic beverage company, The Coca-Company had and would continue to meet the strict halal processing standards, and strict hygiene and quality compliance for all its products.
