    Aluminium sheet and plate shipments by U.S., Canadian producers totaled 697.6 mln lbs in May

    According to the data released by The Aluminum Association in their latest edition of Aluminum Highlights, estimated net shipments of Aluminium Sheet and Plate by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled 697.6 million pounds during May 2016, off two-tenths of one percent from the May 2015 total of 699.3 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments were down 1.4 percent from the April 2016 total of 707.2 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through May 2016 totaled 3,489.3 million pounds, up 1.3 percent over the year-to-date 2015 total of 3,443.0 million pounds.

    Shipments of Can Stock totaled 350.0 million pounds during May 2016, a rise of six-tenths of one percent over the May 2015 total of 348.1 million pounds, while shipments of Non-heat Treatable Sheet (excluding Can Stock) were down 3.6 percent to 235.0 million pounds and shipments of All Other Sheet and Plate rose 4.7 percent to 112.6 million pounds.

    Shipments of aluminium can stock by domestic producers totaled 350.0 million pounds during May 2016, a rise of six-tenths of one percent over the May 2015 total of 348.1 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments were up six-tenths of one percent over the April 2016 total of 348.0 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through May 2016 totaled 1,737.5 million pounds, an increase of 1.3 percent over the 2015 year-to-date total of 1,716.0 million pounds.

    Compared to May 2015, producer shipments of aluminium can stock to U.S. markets were off nine-tenths of one percent to 294.9 million pounds, while exports were up 9.1 percent to 55.1 million pounds.

    Estimated shipments of Aluminium Foil by U.S. and Canadian producers, as per June 14 reporting, totaled 80.5 million pounds during May 2016, a decrease of 7.5 percent from the May 2015 total of 87.1 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments were down 2.8 percent from the April 2016 total of 82.8 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through May 2016 totaled 403.7 million pounds, off one-tenth of one percent from the 2015 year-to-date total of 403.9 million pounds.

    Shipments of Aluminium Extruded Products (extruded shapes, pipe & tube, and rod & bar) by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled an estimated 443.6 million pounds during May 2016, a rise of 1.7 percent over the May 2015 revised total of 436.1 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments were off 2.4 percent from the April 2016 revised total of 454.3 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through May 2016 totaled 2,215.9 million pounds, up 3.3 percent over the year-to-date 2015 total of 2,146.0 million pounds.
