Alcoa might sell unit that includes Louisville plants

Alcoa Inc. said Wednesday it will "explore strategic alternatives" for its Packaging and Consumer unit, which includes two Louisville facilities: a Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil production plant at 2827 Hale Ave. and a packaging lamination plant at 1212 W. Burnett St.  "Now is the right time for us to explore whether these businesses may provide more value on their own or as part of another company," Alain Belda, chairman and CEO, said in a news release.

The Packaging and Consumer segment represented about 10 percent of Alcoa's 2006 revenue, the release said. Alcoa also is exploring options for its Electrical and Electronic Solutions unit (formerly the AFL wireharness business), which includes a fabricated aluminum products service center at 2641 Technology Drive in Jeffersontown.
