Most aluminium smelters in Hubei province have shut down against losses from falling aluminium prices, leaving just two smelters still running at present, revealed latest industry reports.
The province eliminated 127,000-tpy aluminium capacity during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), beating 100,000-tpy target set by the central government.
Hubei Qili Huasheng Aluminum and Hanjiang Danjiangkou Aluminum are the only two remaining smelters, with their annual capacity totals 140,000 tonnes, down 65 per cent from 2010, the report added.
