TDK-EPC is introducing several new products. The company is releasing snap-in aluminium electrolytic capacitors from EPCOS that enable optimal contact to heat sinks. This permits link circuit capacitors to be efficiently cooled, thus significantly increasing their ripple current capability and operating life. Therefore, the new capacitors are especially suited for applications in frequency converters and professional power supplies that have very high ripple current loads and offer the possibility of base cooling.

Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, TDK-EPC Corporation is known for its cutting-edge electronic components, modules and systems. The product portfolio of the company includes ceramic, aluminium electrolytic and film capacitors, ferrites, inductors, and high-frequency components.

Because of their special winding design the ESR values of the new capacitors have been lowered by 30% at 60°C and the thermal resistance between base and windings has been reduced by 50%. The robust capacitors also feature a specially reinforced case for high long-term stability. Thanks to the reduction of their longitudinal tolerance to ±0.2 mm, entire capacitor banks can be connected without problems via comparatively thin thermal pads to heat sinks. This ensures an optimal thermal connection to the heat sink and simultaneously lowers costs. Under suitable operating conditions, up to 50% higher ripple current capability can be achieved.

TDK-EPC also introduced new current sensors for automotive electronics. Both the SAA0032, which has already started mass production, and the SAA0033, which is in development, are designed for currents of up to 200 and 300 A. They operate on the closed-loop principle, allowing them to attain very high accuracies. The absolute measuring error including thermal effects is approximately 1% over the whole current range.

As an open-loop variant the SAA02 series (under development) is particularly cost-effective. It is distinguished by a high rated current of up to 800A with a controlled offset voltage. Also on display is the SAA0040 variant, which is suitable for mounting on a circuit board. This small closed-loop current sensor, which is also under development, offers a very short response time of under 5µs and is designed for currents of up to 32A. Depending on the current handling capacity, the representatives of the SAA series are suitable for various HEV, EV and PHEV designs. They can also be used for reliable and accurate current measurement in solar and wind-driven power installations.

The company is also presenting a new series of compact SMD flyback transformers from EPCOS for space-saving power supplies. Thanks to their EFD cores, they enable insertion heights of only 8.65 to 14.8mm, depending on the transformer type.

The new B82802 series comprises three core sizes and covers the power range between 12 and 55W. These SMD flyback transformers are suited for input voltages of between 36 and 60V at a clock frequency of 100 kHz and a duty ratio of up to 50%. In the standard versions, the output power is divided up among two or three windings. This results in voltages of 3.3V at currents of 1.2 to 3.3A; 5V at 0.8 to 5.5A and 12V at 0.5 to 2.3A. Customer-specific configurations of the output voltages and powers are also possible. The transformers are designed for an operating temperature of between -40 and +125°C and tested for breakdown at 1500Vac.
