The commercial transportation sector in the United States is demanding more aluminium. This includes increased use in trucks and trailers, and Sapa’s plant in California is becoming one of the key suppliers of extruded solutions.
Sapa President & CEO Egil Hogna visited the City of Industry plant, near Los Angeles, to learn more about the requirements from the transportation sector and to get a closer look at the plant’s operations.
The visit was part of Hogna’s 100-day program, in which he is traveling to company locations and meeting employees around the world. In addition to the California site, he spent several hours at Sapa’s extrusion plant in Oregon. He was joined by Patrick Lawlor, executive vice president responsible for extrusion operations in the Americas, and Rob Rubicky, vice president in charge of human resources for the Americas organization.
Excellence in commercial transportation
The three-press operation in City of Industry delivers the majority of its products and solutions for commercial transportation applications, including the truck industry.
“We are very proud to say that our can-do attitude has helped to build our strong reputation in this region,” said Pat Meyer, who manages the plant. “If you can deliver a good product, on time and to the highest quality, then you will retain customers over time.”
Hogna also noted that the high quality of the plant’s products and services is matched by a strong safety culture.
“This is an impressive plant and I am very pleased to see that you have a group of really dedicated workers that feel a strong ownership to the plant and its performance. I believe that when you empower people and make them accountable you achieve the best results,” said Hogna.
