    Vedanta, Jharsuguda hosts BEE's 1st Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP) for aluminium sector

    The 1st Aluminium Sector workshop under Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP) initiative was hosted by Vedanta, Jharsuguda unit, here at the Auditorium, Vedanta Meadows for exchange of best practices in Aluminium industries covered under the Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme.

    PAT is a flagship initiative of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Govt. of India, which is a mechanism for promoting energy efficiency in large industries. Ten Aluminium Industrial units covered under the PAT Scheme are expected to achieve energy savings of 0.456 million tonnes of oil equivalent, which is 7% of the total energy savings potential that 478 designated Consumers aim to achieve by 2014-15.

    The Knowledge Exchange Platform was launched on 26th February, 2015 by BEE in partnership with Institute for Industrial Productivity (IIP). An ‘Action Plan’ detailing the roadmap for KEP and the quarterly Newsletter of the initiative was shared with the participants at the workshop. The Aluminium Workshop was inaugurated by Shri Abhijit Pati, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium Business.

    Shri Abhijit Pati delivered the inaugural speech highlighting the importance of companies adopting best practices that will help save electricity, coal/gas and also limit their emissions of greenhouse gases.

    After the inaugural event, case studies were presented by industry representatives, who shared their experience, as well as approach and benefits of implementing energy efficiency projects and ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) in their units. A table top exhibition was also organized which showcased the energy efficient technologies.

    A Sector Learning Group (SLG) of Aluminium sector was constituted, comprising of top management officials from Aluminium Sector, to guide the sector’s future activities under KEP.

    The workshop was also instrumental in formulating teams for Friendly Energy Audits under which one plant’s official will visit the other plant and share their experiences.

    The workshop had participation from over 200 distinguished speakers, eminent aluminium industry leaders from NALCO, Hindalco, Balco, government agencies, research institutions, energy managers and auditors, and senior Industry professionals amongst many others.
