An analyst from the state nonferrous information center, Beijing Antaike predicted on Monday that in 2015, China’s domestic aluminium smelting capacity is expected to rise by 14.3% reaching 40 million mt/year compared to last year’s 35 million mt/year.

The low production costs in the western part of the country, especially Xinjiang, have boosted the country’s smelting capacities and expansions continue in those western regions.

In Xinjiang alone, the aluminium production capacity is likely to reach 6 million mt/year by the end of 2015, jumping from 4.5 million mt/year in 2014 and 3 million mt/ year recorded in 2013, says the Antaike analyst.

As the capacities rise, China’s aluminium output in this year is also expected to rise surpassing last year’s 28 million by approx. 10.7% and 2013’s 25 million by 24% to 31 million mt in 2015.
