IDCO allots 8,066 acres of land for Vedanta, Hindalco projects

The Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), which is the nodal agency for land acquisition for various projects in the state, has already allotted 8,066 acres of land for proposed aluminium projects in the state. “We have allotted 8,066 acres of land for the proposed projects in aluminium sector in the state. Total land requirement for all MoU projects in this segment is pegged at 13,924.5 acres,” an official of IDCO said.
As per documents of the state agency, IDCO had acquired and allotted 2,053.2 acres of government land and 6,012.77 acres of private land for these projects. In the aluminium sector, the state government had signed memorandum of understanding with Vedanta Aluminium (now Sesa Sterlite), Aditya Aluminium and home grown RSB Metaltech Ltd.
In case of Vedanta’s Lanjigarh refinery, IDCO had allotted 2,064.5 acres of land to the company out of which 1,610.7 acres were acquired from private land holders. Similarly, IDCO had allotted 1,915 acres of land for Vedanta’s smelter and captive power projects at Jharsuguda. The land acquisition agency had also allotted 2,580 acres of land to Aditya Alumina’s (Hindalco) Rengali project, which had already been commissioned. However, land acquisition process for its Koraput project is on hold due to pending approval of forest diversion proposal.Meanwhile, RSB Metaltech had not been allotted any land for its proposed aluminium project at Rayagada. However, land acquisition process for its Kamkhyanagar project is currently underway. The state government had inked pacts with 93 players for setting up projects in steel, aluminium and power sector in the state. Majority of these projects will come up in steel sector.
