The price of Chinese domestic spot aluminium alloy ADC12 has inched up due to an improved performance of primary aluminium prices and better demand, said industry sources. The Platts weekly assessment for ADC12 has gone up from last week’s 14,600-15,100/mt to 14,750-15,250/mt ex-works Tuesday.
One diecaster reported that he paid Yuan 15,400/mt this week, even though he had paid 15,000/mt only last month.
The pick up in prices are common during this time as factories are rushing to fill their year-end orders. However, this year the hike has come in later and lower than usual. October-December is usually the peak season for plant but the demand in general seems slower this year, perhaps due to the slower Chinese economy.
The Shanghai Futures Exchange saw the November aluminium future at Yuan 13,980/mt compared to Yuan 13,700/mt last Tuesday and Yuan 13,935 on October 8 this year.
