Sohar Aluminium says it achieved 72% Omanisation last year

The sustainability report released by Sohar Aluminium (SA) reveals that the company attained 72 per cent Omanisation in 2013.

The sustainability report for 2013 was released on Thursday at a ceremony which was attended by H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Said bin Saif al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, dignitaries, executives, as well as members of the media.

The report sheds light on Sohar Aluminium’s sustainability achievements. Addressing the gathering, Mulham Bashir al Jarf, chairman of Sohar Aluminium, in his speech said, “We achieved 72 per cent Omanisation last year. Sohar Aluminium has had a fruitful year achieving several milestones across all spheres.”

He added, “The sustainability report focuses on our efforts to create a zero injury workplace, minimise our footprint on the environment, train and develop our workforce, maximise our positive impact in community services, support downstream job creation while continuously improving our production process, while meeting the highest expectations of our customers.”

Visitors to the event witnessed an exhibition showcasing the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects that Sohar Aluminium has supported. Representatives of CSR beneficiaries presented their projects and appreciated Sohar Aluminium’s input in their success. The beneficiaries included government institutions, non-governmental organisations and small and medium enterprises.

Mahmood al Alawi, secretary of Al Noor Association for the Blind in Batinah and Dhahirah governorates, highlighted the role played by Sohar Aluminium towards establishing an office for his association in Sohar.

He said, “We contacted Sohar Aluminium, requesting them to sponsor the construction of our office. The response exceeded our expectations. Sohar Aluminium agreed not only to build the office, but also to furnish it completely.”
