Dubai-based Gulf Extrusions Co has made plans to expand their capacity with a new plant that is due to come up by next year owing to the rise in global demand especially in the industrial and construction sectors, said a company executive.
The general manager for this Al Ghurair Group company, Modar al Mekdad, said that they are looking to grow their annual capacity to 100,000 tonnes over the 3-4 years. They are already one of the largest aluminium product makers in the Gulf.
Mekdad further informed that 30 percent of their products are exported to Europe, Africa, India and the Middle East and caters to more than half of the construction market in UAE.
The firm is currently churning out an output of 50,000 tonnes at the Dubai plant. There is another plant coming up in Abu Dhabi, close to Emirates Aluminium smelter, worth $225 million due to be operational by 2015. It is a joint venture with General Holding Co (Senaat) of Abu Dhabi on 50:50 ownership terms.
Gulf Extrusions has further expansion plans and by 2020 they aim to increase their annual output to 125,000 at least with the proposed plant in Qatar. “With substantial growth capacity added, we are aiming to be in the top 10 aluminium extrusion companies globally by 2020,” Mekdad said.
