Russian Rusal plans to produce 1.8 million mt of aluminum over July-December, keeping the run rate of its smelters at less than 80% despite rising prices, the company said Wednesday.
The miner had produced 1.7 million mt of primary aluminum ingot, billet, slab and foundry alloys from January to June, down 10.8% year on year, following output cuts at less cost efficient smelters.
Production in the April-June period was 0.9 million mt, down from 1 million mt a year ago, but up 2% from the previous quarter.
Aluminum production for full-year 2014 is estimated at 3.5 million mt, down from 3.86 million mt in 2013 and the lowest since its 2007 merger with Sual.
