Aluminum Association updates downstream aluminium statistics for July

The Aluminum Association’s “Index of Net New Orders of Aluminum Mill Products” for July was up 4.8 percent over June.
Orders for flat roll products (sheet, plate, can stock and foil) rose 5.9 percent over the previous month, orders for extruded products were up 4.4 percent, while orders for redraw rod were off 7.3 percent. Compared to July 2013, total orders increased 8.1 percent over the previous year. On average, orders recorded by domestic producers through July 2014 were up seven-tenths of one percent over last year. Excluding domestic can stock, year-to-date orders are up 3.2 percent over last year.
Estimated shipments of Aluminum Foil by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled 88.1 million pounds during July 2014, down 2.9 percent from the July 2013 total of 90.7 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments declined two-tenths of one percent from the June 2014 total of 88.3 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through July 2014 totaled 600.6 million pounds, off 1.6 percent from the 2013 year-to-date total of 610.6 million pounds.
Shipments of can stock totaled 374.6 million pounds during July 2014, down 4.2 percent from the July 2013 total of 391.0 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments rose 2.2 percent over the June 2014 revised total of 366.7 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through July 2014 totaled 2,491.2 million pounds, off 5.7 percent from the 2013 year-to-date total of 2,642.9 million pounds.
Shipments of Aluminum Powder and Paste to domestic markets by domestic producers, including imports by domestic producers, totaled 7.86 million pounds during July 2014, an increase of 8.0 percent over the July 2013 revised total of 7.28 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments declined 5.7 percent from the June 2014 total of 8.34 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through July 2014 totaled 51.97 million pounds, up 6.3 percen6t over the 2013 year-to-date total of 48.87 million pounds. Compared to July 2013, shipments of powder to domestic markets rose 10.1 percent to 6.99 million pounds, while shipments of paste were down 6.4 percent to 0.87 million pounds.
Estimated net shipments of Aluminum Sheet and Plate by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled 715.8 million pounds during July 2014, an increase of 3.9 percent over the July 2013 total of 688.7 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments rose 2.1 percent over the June 2014 revised total of 700.9 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through July 2014 totaled 4,741.3 million pounds, up one-tenth of one percent over the 2013 year-to-date total of 4,735.0 million pounds.
