The sales of CVG-Bauxilum alumina in Venezuela totaled 51,341 mt in the month of May, a rise by 51% on total sales of 51,341 mt in 2013 May, said Bauxilum on Tuesday. The sales in May were down by 32% compared to sales of 75,820 mt in the month of April.

Of the total sales in May 2014, 25,071 were domestic and rest of the sales that were exported to Glencore International AG accounted for 26,266 mt. There are chances of sales rising in short to the medium term and it is expected that Bauxilium will reactivate one of the two production lines later in this week. This could imply that state company would export depending on excess of alumina of 60,000 mt/month after it had supplied to Alcasa and CVG-Venalum aluminium smelters, said a Bauxilium official.

Bauxilium’s Pijiguaos mine total b auxite sales was 4,401 mt in the month of May, a rise of 889% on the total sales compared to May 2013. The total sales in May rose by 175% compared to that of April. Of the total sales in May 2014, 3,364 mt were to Venezolana de Cementos and 467 mt for Ferralca Aluminium Company.
