Aluminium production again pick up steam in May 2014

World Aluminium markets have again shown spike in the production figures. The April month brought some relief in the rising trend of production that was near all time highs.
Data estimates from International Aluminium Institute (IAI) showed that the total primary Aluminium production reached 4.33 million tonnes in the month of May 2014 from 4.25 million tonnes in the month of April 2014.
The production of Aluminium reached record highs of 4.405 million tonnes in the month of March. The production of Aluminium in May 2014, appreciated by 2.7% compared to corresponding period last year when it was 4.21 million tonnes.
China remained the major contributor to the production as increase in Chinese production also resulted in the increase in the production of World Aluminium on a monthly basis. The total reported production in China was 1.898 million tonnes in May 2014, indicating a 43.83% share in the world primary production.
Production of China in May 2013 was 1.76 million tonnes. This marked a appreciation of 7.47%. Unreported production in China is estimated around 200000 tonnes.
Asian production excluding China was 203000 tonnes, compared to 195000 tonnes in the month of April 2014. Meanwhile, production appreciation in the GCC region was noted. The total production of GCC in May 2014 was 417000 tonnes, up 20% from 334000 tonnes in the month of May 2013.
