Sapa’s aluminium extrusion unit in Sweden has informed its organization about the potential reduction of 80 employees. Union representatives have been notified and will begin local negotiations shortly.
Sapa’s long-term strategy is to build strong and effective production units that meet the demands of local and regional customers, and to have key support functions in a small number of centers serving the entire group. As a result of this, together with greater demands for profitability, efficiency and flexibility, Sapa Profiler AB in Sweden is adjusting its way of working and its organization, mainly in the area of business support roles.
“It is difficult having to lay off employees, but necessary for us to be able to improve profitability and make certain that we are competitive over the long term,” says Mari Wilhemsen, Sapa Profiler AB’s managing director.
“We are concentrating on reinforcing our position as a reliable and effective partner. We want to become more flexible, improve customer service, and strengthen our standing as the leading aluminium solutions supplier in Sweden and the entire Nordic region.”
Sapa Profiler AB has approximately 1,050 employees and annual turnover of around SEK 2 billion. The market leader in Sweden, Sapa Profiler AB has production and sales activities in Vetlanda, Finspång, Gothenburg, Stockholm and Umeå. It is organized as part of Sapa’s Nordic extrusion business.
