Ess Dee Aluminium enters into tie-up with Germany¡¯s Chemnitz University for R&D in packaging

Ess Dee Aluminium, a leading manufacturer of primary packaging material for pharma and FMCG segment has entered into an agreement with Germany's Chemnitz University of Technology for co-operation in research in the field of packaging and aluminium foils. The tie up aims to improve the existing products in terms of quality, price and overall performance and to develop new products based on the existing capabilities.

The MoU was signed by Sudip Dutta, chairman Ess Dee AluminiumBSE 0.73 % and Prof. Dr Andreas Schubert, Vice Rector of Technische Universitat Chemnitz. The two partners also aim to take up joint studies to create a roadmap for detailed areas of research, including anti-counterfeit processes and developing eco-friendly printed packages and innovations through different printing processes, including flexo, digital and gravure.

The German university, which is a top player in the field of print and packaging and printed electronics will also work with Ess Dee Aluminium to design test and measurement tasks for the new technology and in product development.

Commenting on the tie up, Mr Dutta said : "The essence of this collaboration is to create and harmonise manufacturing competencies of Ess Dee Aluminium with the huge research and knowledge bank of Chemnitz University in common areas of interest. This co-operation will also favour the Indian economy by creating and developing innovative and eco-friendly products for pharma and food industries. This will also go a long way in generating a positive social impact and develop green technology in the packaging sector by reducing carbon footprint."
