After careful considerations, Sapa has today started consultations with employees in Workington, UK, regarding a potential closure of its aluminium tubing operations in Workington.
At the same time, Sapa is investigating if there are possibilities to sell its brass business at the Workington-based site.
The Workington plant has 35 employees engaged in the production of welded tubes for the automotive market and heat exchanger market. The plant is organized within Sapa's Precision Tubing business area.
Sapa announces intention to close Workington plant in UKSapa has been through a process of evaluating possible restructuring measures to improve profitability and adjust to the current market situation, in Europe primarily. Several options have been assessed across all regions.
“We remain committed to serving our aluminium customers, and will maintain a significant footprint in the Precision Tubing markets worldwide," says Salvador Biosca, who leads the Precision Tubing business area.
"The restructuring activities undertaken in Europe are intended to optimize production while providing a more centralized and improved platform from which to serve our customer base. We also foresee the need to focus on growth in Asia and North America."
