    Aluminum Association updates on aluminium demand in US and Canada

    Preliminary estimates for aluminum demand in the United States and Canada (shipments by domestic producers plus imports) totaled an estimated 1,864 million pounds during February 2014, down 4.0 percent from a year ago. Demand for semi-fabricated (mill) products totaled 1,240 million pounds, down 2.6 percent. Apparent consumption (demand less exports) in domestic markets totaled an estimated 1,616 million pounds, increasing four-tenths of one percent.

    April 22 – Shipments of Aluminum Extruded Products (extruded shapes, pipe & tube, and rod & bar) by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled an estimated 389.0 million pounds during March 2014, an increase of 13.2 percent over the March 2013 total of 343.5 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments rose 15.1 percent over the February 2014 revised total of 338.1 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through March 2014 totaled 1,091.9 million pounds, up 6.0 percent over the 2013 year-to-date total of 1,030.1 million pounds.
