HLG, operating as Leighton Middle East, has landed a contract with the Oman Aluminium Rolling Company (OARC) valued at $32mn (OR12mn) for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of a new coil coating plant.

The plant is part of OARC’s new rolling facilities that began commercial operations in 2014, which is set to hit full 160,000-ton production capacity by 2019.

The coil coating plant will be based opposite an existing rolling mill plant at Sohar Industrial Estate. The work will also include a waste water treatment plant, natural gas reducting station, a scrap yard., solid waste yard, a hazardous waste area, offices, canteen, warehouse and other facilities.

HLG’s CEO and managing director, Mr. José Antonio López-Monís, said the plant project is an important milestone for HLG as it is the firm's first EPC project in Sohar.

“Oman is an important market for HLG and we are grateful to have been selected by Oman Aluminium Rolling Company to build their plant facility," he said. "This project award acknowledges that we have the local skills and experience that our clients require delivering a best-in-class project.”

He added that the firm is focussed on securing projects that showcase its international strength. "We have a positive outlook on the Middle East’s construction market and anticipate a significant number of new opportunities, which strategically align with HLG’s diversification strategy and expansion into the industrial sector."
