The total sales of CVG-Bauxilum alumina in Venezuela reached 64,126 mt in March, a rise by 57% from 40,822 mt in the period March 2013, said Bauxilum on Friday.

The sales in March were up by 13% M-O-M from the total sales of 56,524 mt in the month of February.

Of the total sales in March, the domestic sales were 46,018 mt and export sales to Chalieco in China were 18,108 mt.

Glencore International AG, the once-principal client of Bauxilum, was not shipped alumina. Since Bauxilium has a deal worth $403 million with the government of Venezuela to modernize operations at the primary aluminium smelter of CVG- Alcasa, they would never comment on their priority given to Chalieco over Glencore.

Bauxilium was already negotiating over a year ago with Chalieco to raise the total production at the Puerto Ordaz-based plant, but they never really made it to a contract.

Now Bauxilium is hopeful about reviving a part of the resources from China-Venezuela Fund worth $5 billion. It is expected that they will get it in second quarter.

Bauxilum's Pijiguaos mine’s bauxite sales in March totaled 606 mt, down by 25% from the sales of 807 mt in the month of March 2013.
