Unions have described the loss of nearly 100 jobs at a Doncaster company that was supplying aluminium frames to the construction industry as a “bitter blow”.
Wilson Field, administrators of Norking Aluminium, says it has failed to find a buyer for the company, and so has been forced to make all 98 staff redundant.
It says that despite having a healthy order book, the company had experienced cash flow problems and in particular had tax arrears which a Time to Pay arrangement with HMRC had failed to resolve.
Insolvency practitioner Lisa Hogg said: “The directors sought our advice after a proposed finance package fell through. At this stage there were few options available for us other than to seek a new owner and despite our succeeding in finding several parties with an interest in the business at this late stage, none of these have yet amounted to anything.”
Construction union UCATT said it is already in touch with the administrators to make sure staff get redundancy and to explore re-training options.
Regional organiser John McIntyre said: “This is a bitter blow for a hard working dedicated workforce. Every effort should be made to find a buyer for the company to save as many jobs as possible.”
