Ohio-based Aleris announced today it has purchased Nichols Aluminum, which operates a facility in Decatur, from Quanex Building Productions for $110 million cash.

Nichols Aluminum, a wholly-owned subsidiary, produces aluminum sheets on Alabama 20 in Decatur and at production facilities in Davenport, Iowa and Lincolnshire, Ill. The company serves the North American transportation, building and construction, machinery and equipment, consumer durables, and electrical markets.

Quanex, the company's former owner in Houston, is a components supplier for the global window and door industry.

"Going forward, our full focus will be on growing our position as a leading window and door component supplier both domestically and internationally," said Bill Griffiths, Quanex chairman, president and chief executive officer, in a statement.

Aleris, which specializes in aluminum rolled products and extrusions, aluminum recycling and specification alloy production, has more than 40 manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and Asia.

"Adding the Nichols' sites to our portfolio is consistent with our strategy to grow our geographic footprint, expand our finishing capacity and add supply chain flexibility in our Rolled Products segment in North America – all of which will enhance our level of service to our customers," said Steve Demetriou, Aleris chairman and CEO, in a statement.
