Experts from the UAE’s aluminium sector will address business leaders, engineers and scientists from around the world at the TMS Annual Meeting and Exhibition, a leading industry event, which started today (February 16) in the US.
The TMS 2014 is taking place in San Diego, California until February 20. It is aimed at enabling players in the minerals, metals and materials sector to exchange knowledge in science and technology.
The representatives of Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) and Emirates Aluminium (Emal) presented five papers at the conference.
The Dubal-developed DX Reduction Cell Technology, which offers productivity and environmental performance, is used by Emal to produce the much-in-demand metal, said a statement.
Operating at high amperage, the technology enables aluminium to be produced using less energy and with reduced emissions while retaining the highest quality and purity levels. Dubal’s new generation DX+ Reduction Cell Technology, which operates at a higher amperage and with better performance parameters, has been installed at Emal Phase II (currently in ramp-up phase).
Five DX+ Ultra Reduction Cell Technology pots are currently under construction at Dubal’s Jebel Ali smelter, which are targeted to operate at 460 kA and will offer lower specific energy consumption and lower capex – yet higher production per surface area of the potline.
The papers highlighted the technological developments in lectures entitled ‘Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions during Aluminium Smelting through Development and Implementation of Improved Control Strategies and Operational Practices’; and another on a process control-related topic.
Emal’s representative outlined the operational plan that enabled the company to achieve the fastest, safest and uninterrupted start-up in the world. - TradeArabia News Service
