China’s production of A356 aluminium alloys, used in making wheels, recovered in November following output cuts earlier and gains in silicon prices, Shanghai Metals Market has learned.

A356 aluminium alloys output increased 3,300 tonnes from October to 100,800 tonnes this month, while average operating rate at Chinese producers added 0.86% month-on-month to 69.52%, according to SMM’s research team.

Still, market supplies remained tight following earlier production cuts at major producers including CHINALCO’s Shandong and Baotou branches, Zhejiang Huadong Aluminium Co. and Chiping Hengxin Aluminium Co.

At the same time, aluminium wheel producers increased buying ready-made alloys after recent gains in silicon metal prices made it less cost-effective for them to make themselves.

Processing charges for A356 aluminium alloys remained at around 650 yuan ($106) per tonne in east China as SMM expected limited room for gains in the charges toward the year’s end.
