China’s alumina imports during July totaled 234,200 mt, down 49.08% YoY. YTD imports through July were 1.88 million mt, also down 35.78% YoY, according to China Customs.
China’s alumina imports in July were up from June levels, however, since falling Australian alumina prices stimulated Chinese aluminum producers to ramp up imports. The average monthly FOB price for Australian alumina in July fell to USD 318.4/mt, and although this price is still higher than the USD 309/mt from a year ago, it is the lowest price since September 2012
