Aluminum Smelters Have Idled Part Capacity in Southwest China

(China Aluminum Network) Aluminum smelters in Southwest China have already idled part capacity to reduce financial loss, including Guangxi Laibin Yinhai Aluminum Co., Ltd and Baise Yinhai Aluminum Co., Ltd. Aluminum smelters’ power price will rise in winter time, during this period local hydropower station with lower water level. Therefore, aluminum smelters production cost will largely increased. These smelters once recovered capacity in the middle of 2012, but short term close was harm to aluminum deoxidation pool. If power price keep rising, aluminum smelters in Southwest will continue cut down production in the future.
Compared with other provinces in China, Guangxi province lack of government support and high power price. This year, some electrolyzer production lines in these smelters may forced to be idled.
