British “Metal Herald” reported that at present the supply of alumina remains tight, with high price. Even though some experts said the overplus supply would lead to price decline, currently the latest bid price of Indian NALCO company was 407 U.S dollars per ton, a bit higher than 405 U.S dollars per ton last time.
Some experts said that the current supply of bauxite and alumina were still relatively tight. Not long ago, ALCAN delayed the operation date of GOVE alumina plant expansion project to the second quarter. It was guessed outside that because of the cost raise and conflict led by strike in Guinean, the bauxite was influenced, even thought it was reported that the situation there has returned to normal. The analysts pointed out that although the bauxite in other parts instead of Guinean bauxite, the quality of other bauxite was worse than that in Guinean which led the smelting difficulties in some alumina manufactures and high production cost. Most analysts said that the current situation would be changed, it was only a matter of time.
