    China Aluminum Smelters Agreed to Improve Alumina Import Price in 2013

    (China Aluminum Network) It is reported that owing to tight domestic supply, China aluminum smelters agreed to import alumina with higher price next year, China is the world largest aluminum producer and consumer.


    The source said alumina import price was 16.1%-16.3% of LME, based on FOB, the ratio was higher than 15.2%-15.5% in 2012.


    The production capacity in Xinjiang electrolytic aluminium industry was expected over 10,000 thousand tons in 2015, now Henan province is the biggest electrolytic aluminium producer in China.


    Since June this year, domestic five major alumina producers cut 10% production capacity totally owing to 20% export tariff on some metallic mineral in Indonesia caused decliend in bauxite import from Indonesia.


    Official data showed China primary aluminum output was 18,160 thousand tons in the past 11 months increased 12.3% yoy, while alumina output increased 10.3% to 34,680 thousand tons.


    From Jan. to Nov., China alumina improt volume soared 175.8% to 4,630 thousand tons yoy. Chinese manufacturers need about two tons alumina for the production of each ton aluminum.
