Bauxite Prices Hit A Historical High

(China Aluminum Network) The new database indicated that domestic bauxite price hit a new high record until November; increased nearly twenty percent compared with the lowest. The exported bauxite also increased in 2012; it reached the highest price of $52.53 per ton; which increased by 16.81 percent and hit a historical high.

According to 2012, price of domestic and imported bauxite showed upward trend. The biggest production cite of bauxite-Shanxi, showed a down-up trend in 2012. The extra grade bauxite(content of 88 percent) is 1500 to 1800 Yuan per ton; first grade(content of 85 percent) is 1350 to 1600 Yuan per ton; third grade(content of 75 percent) is 52 to 650 Yuan per ton.

Analyst of Pengbo said bauxite supplying is inadequate though aluminum capacity surplus. In hence, with fast developing of bauxite, demand of bauxite is increasing a lot. In 2011, supplying of bauxite was 53 percent.

In May, Indonesia enforced bauxite restriction which resulted in lack of bauxite. Five large alumina enterprises announced slashing production plan in June. Pengbo said, policies changing of main imported regions, our alumina producers gradually turned to Australia, India, Figi, etc. However, perhaps the price is high or limited supplying; policy is not assured. In summary, the average cost of importing bauxite is bound a rising trend.

The expert analyzed that domestic bauxite price may keep ten percent in 2013. Average price of imported bauxite should be maintained fifty Yuan per ton. Meanwhile, the price may peak a new high. Some related enterprises may get profit. Pengbo said that CHALCO, Yunnan Aluminium, Nanshan Aluminum, NFC is rich in bauxite resources.
