(China Aluminum Network) At present, China aluminum industrial technology enjoyed world leading level. The average power consumption for China was 13,900 in 2011 which was close to the world best level, aluminum industrial concentration was also improved largely at the end of 2011.
In terms of electrolytic aluminium production cost, mainly included power and alumina. According to current market conditions, power occupied more than 50% of the total production cost, alumina occupied more than one third. The power price was keep rising all the time caused pressure to the operational cost of electrolytic aluminium enterprises. China’s total bauxite resource reserves was near 4 billion tons, but still can not meet the raw material demand of domestic aluminum industry.
The experts hold that China aluminum industry has suffered a rapid expansion period after entered into 21st century. From 2000 to 2011, the average annual increase rate reached 21% and 18% for China alumina and electrolytic aluminium output. Data showed at the end of 2011, the whole nation with 52,200 thousand tons/year of alumina capacity, electrolytic aluminium capacity was 25,500 thousand tons/year and 32,000 thousand tons/year of aluminum products. In fact, the excessive growth of aluminum industry has made aluminum supply surpassed market demand.
In 2000, China electrolytic aluminium output was only 2,794 thousand tons, self-sufficiency rate reached 71%. Owing to the excessive growth of electrolytic aluminum industry leaded to alumina shortage. In 2004, China alumina output can only satisfied 49% of the electrolytic aluminium production. In recent years, the growth of alumina output has improved self-sufficiency rate to 90% in 2011, with less import, but still lack of alumina. In 2011, China imported 45,230 thousand tons of bauxite and 1,880 thousand tons of alumina.
