(China Aluminum Network) In recent years, the output of domestic alumina kept a fast increasing; however, foreign import demand never showed significant reduction. With prohibition of bauxite in May from Indonesian government, our demand for alumina showed sharp rising because of shortage of raw materials.
In May, 2012, Chinese imported alumina surpassed 700,000 tons.
For the export, monthly total exports of alumina always hovered below 10000 tons; however, in February, it reduced to 676 tons, which is the lowest level in recent years.
Alumina import is expected to five million tons, which will be increased by 150 percent. The high growth trend will continue in 2013. It is forecasted that alumina imports will be 6 million tons in 2013.
