China Produced 38,810 Thousand Tons of Alumina 2011

(China Aluminum Network) In 2011 China produced about 38,810 thousand tons of alumina increased 24.4% yoy, the demand of alumina was about 39,040 thousand tons increased 10.5%. Besides, imported alumina was about 1,880 thousand tons decreased 56.4% yoy.

Chinalco stated that in 2011 the global alumina output was about 90,670 thousand tons up 10.6%, consumption volume reached to 89,400 thousand tons up 7.9% yoy. At the end of December 2011, the operating rate of alumina enterprises was 89.3% while in China this figure was 81.9%.

In 2011, aluminum spot price was rose at first then dropped. At the beginning of this year owing to economic rebound steadily, primary aluminum and alumina price rose gradually. Then after Sep. alumina price dropped followed with aluminum price. International alumina spot price was high to $440/ton and low to $310/ton, average price was $413/ton, increased 19% yoy. While in domestic alumina price was up to 3,000 yuan/ton, the lowest price was 2,600 yuan/ton, 2786yuan/ton for average, decreased 3% yoy.
