Chinese January Alumina Importing at 659,000t, up 13.3% on Year

Chinese mainland imported 659,000 tons of alumina in January at $240 million, up 13.3% and 7.1%on year respectively on the basis of volume and value, and average price was $369 per ton, down 5.5%, reported General Administration of Customs.
The office also noted that surging alumina importing was mainly due to efficiency on regulated import tariff policies, snowstorm bringing down production and rising aluminium price in international markets, which has spurred importing.
The current issues are that blinded expansion in electrolytic aluminium accelerates bauxite consumption in China, raw materials supply is reined as alumina importing channels are quite limited and production recovered slowly in domestic electrolytic aluminium sector.
