    China Aluminum Industry May Exist Passive Reduction

    (China Aluminum Network) Li Chunling stated that China aluminum industry may exist passive reduction in 2012, enterprises should do good psychological preparation, proceed industry upgrade, obsolete fall behind capacity and improve product competitiveness at the moment.


    BHP Billiton has stopped investment in aluminum business and should reconsider the future of this business.


    The sluggish aluminum industry was owing to excess production capacity. Apart from excess production capacity aluminum industry also suffered with demand depression. According to analysts global economic situation now was weak and serious European debt crisis, so uncertains still highlighted in short-term. Profits declined in aluminum industry since unbalanced demand and supply. Thus, Rio Tinto, Alcoa and many other enterprises all cut production to balance market. According to the production characteristics of of aluminum that reduction may caused larger losses to enterprises. Therefore, enterprises will continue production with slight profits. From the view of the 12th Five-year Plan for non-ferrous metal industry, China aluminum industry was unlikely to reduce production.
