(China Aluminum Network) Alcoa and Norsk Hydro announced to cope with aluminum price decrease will reduce production aroused guess that whether China will imitate it or not.
Industry sources majority of Chinese large-scale aluminum smelters no reduction plans, the first quarter production will keep balance with last quarter since the strong domestic price. Most of the smelters had restarted production with 97% capacity. Since October, the capacity of smelters expanded 600-1000 thousand tons.
According to analysts that only with insufficient funds Chinese smelters will take reduction into consideration. If domestic aluminum price drop to lower than 15,000 yuan and keep the same level within three months that smelters may think about reduce production. But analysts said it is impossible to appear this situation in first quarter.
A sales manager stated that their factory will maintain the normal capacity even demand dropped 10%-15%. He expected that the average production cost will more than 16,000 yuan in Henan smelters in the first quarter.
