China Feb Alumina Importing Hit Bottom

China imported 298,521 tons of alumina in February, sharply down from the volume of 659,432 tons in January, and has been at the bottom level since May lat year.
The total import volume in the two months dropped 13.7% on year.
Due to smelter producers piling up stock before the Chinese New Year holiday in February, Chinese government calling off 3% import tax earlier this year, together with the short-term increase of alumina at the end of last year and beginning of this year, the import volume of alumina in January rose vastly.
The sharply decreased output of the two months also represents the profits earlier this year, as well as the affect that power shortage brought about in southern China in February.
Good supplies in domestic alumina markets led to declines of alumina price in China and lower demand for raw materials abroad.
