Alcoa President Delivered Speech on China Development Forum 2008

Beijing, March 24—The annual meeting“ China Development Forum 2008”is going on from March 22 to March 24 in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing with the subject “China towards 2020: Development Goals and Policy Options”.
Alcoa president Kleinfeld delivered a lecture in this morning’s “China towards 2020: International View” unit, and gave a brief introduction of Alcoa’s investment in China.
At the beginning of the speech, he spoke highly of Chinese government’s forward looking in development, noting China has made an excellent blueprint for the coming 5 years, and the company hopes it can join in the course.
Alcoa acquired Qin Huangdao aluminum Corp.in 1997, and has set up a lot of operations with an investment of over 700 million dollars. Alcoa currently has 13 operations in China with around 1800 employees.
The company also stated its partnership with Chalco in buying Rio’s shares, as well as its assistance in the latter’s IPO. It particularly stressed on the sustainable development together with its achievements such as recognitions from NGOs, Dow Jones Index and Fortune.
