Sapa Profiles North America plans to invest $2 million in a major expansion of anodizing operations at its Miami, Florida, plant, the aluminum extruder and sheetmaker said Tuesday.
Construction is due to begin in December with completion and full operation slated for mid-first quarter 2012, the company said, adding that the expansion will make Sapa's Miami operation the largest aluminum anodizing facility in the southeastern US.
"This investment will more than double our Miami anodizing capacity to over 13 million lb annually," said Sam Tingler, Miami plant manager, in a statement. "We will offer a full range of services in clear and electrolytic colored anodic coatings as well as acid etch."
The plant's new anodizing lines will feature "green applications" for the building and construction market and also serve solar/renewable energy and automotive customers.
The expansion plans forms part of the more than $100 million in capital expenditure Sapa has laid out in North America over the last two years, the company said.
"By adding capacity and new capabilities, the Miami facility will add sourcing flexibility and complementary capabilities to our plants in Delhi, Louisiana, and Gainesville, Georgia," Sat Adusumilli, director of operational effectiveness for Sapa North America, said.
Sapa NA's parent company, the Sweden-based Sapa Group, is the world's largest aluminum extruder. The group operates 65 facilities worldwide, including four billet remelt plants in the US at Cressona, Pennsylvania; Delhi, Louisiana; Spanish Fork, Utah; and Yankton, South Dakota, as well as one in Toronto.
